Imaginative Themes Spark Boys’ Decor

When you need to redecorate your little boys’ room you want to be inspired by something he likes; a sports hero, an artist, or maybe a fantasy that he reacts over and over. He spends hours playing so why not make his room decor fit in with his imagination.

Eye on the Ball: Home decorators will hardly ever go wrong choosing a sports theme for a boy’s room. Anything with a ball in it is likely to draw a little guy’s interest. Plus, the spherical shape of most balls lends itself nicely to colorful area rugs that give a room focus. If your son has a favorite team, so much the better; you can paint the room in team colors. Furniture, wallpaper and fabrics in sports themes are readily available, and you can finish off the room with accessories of the sport’s equipment.

Rainbow Bright: Perhaps your son shows artistic tendencies, or maybe he just likes bright colors. Go for the gold (and blue and green and …) by using bright colors everywhere. If the room has wall-to-wall carpeting, start by choosing a wildly colorful area rug, and take your color cues from that. Paint each shelf of a bookcase a different color corresponding to the color theme. Color up the bedroom furniture in the same way. Remember, paint is the most inexpensive way to design a room, so don’t be shy about using it lavishly.

Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho – That’s right, your little boy may love to be a pirate. Decorate with a scene from “Treasure Island” or “Peter Pan” or even “Pirates of the Caribbean”. When decorating with this theme you need to start with an ocean blue. Then add your sailing shops and netting. Don’t forget to paint a porthole on the wall. Decorate around the room with treasure boxes so he can store little treasures away.

A Knight’s Tale: This theme will take some real artistic talent but you can do it if this is the look your son wants. You can paint flying pennants on the walls or even a tall castle. You may need to read the book about The Tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round table” for your inspiration.

Do the Locomotion: Grown-ups think of them as merely transportation, but youngsters see trains (and planes and automobiles) as the purveyors of wonder. You can choose a single theme or combine them for an overall transportation look. Most of these designs use bright primary colors, especially for traffic signals and railroad crossings. Some kind of transportation border around the walls works well. Beds shaped like cars, planes and trains are all available.

Do The Locomotion – When your little boy thinks of the phrase “Do the Locomotion” they think of trains, planes, and of course automobiles. There are two different ways to do this theme; a single theme or a combination. You can use a transportation border to go around the top of the room. Ride ‘em, Cowboy – The fun of pretending to be back in the wild, wild west. This theme is a classic and is still popular today. Create curtains by using a red and blue bandanna. You can also look for a western themed wallpaper to add to the walls. The wallpaper should have horses, ropes, and of course cowboys. You can purchase a bedside lamp in a boot base.

Decorating The Playroom Through Your Child’s Growing Years

Creating a playroom that will grow with your children is not difficult. Your child’s first playroom will be when they are toddlers. Their space will need to be colorful, inviting, safe and have lots of storage space for their toys.

As your child outgrows the toddler years, the playroom will also have to outgrow the toddler decors. The new look will depend on your child’s needs and growing interest in different things.

Then, moving into the preteen years the room will again need a major overhaul to match your child’s growing needs and interests. The last change will be for your teens and should at this point double for the adults. Now the playroom becomes an entertainment room. As your child grows so do their interests and their toys get bigger and more expensive. Your playroom needs to change with them.

A room makeover to keep up with the changing phases is easy to do. Appropriate decorations, furnishings, artworks and colors have a big impact on the overall look of the room.

Area rugs for instance, can transform the room in a snap. As a toddler’s playroom, it will look best with colorful, ultra soft and thick area rugs for your child’s safety too.

As the child moves into the elementary school age, their interests have changed and they have favorite characters, or sports activities or perhaps dance or horse back riding. There are area rugs that have whimsical design and colors that will blend easily with their many interests.

The same goes for area rugs that are suitable for teenagers. With the numerous selections, there are area rugs that can live up to any teen’s finicky and ever-changing taste. Mostly, rugs designed with sports and music themes are popular choices.

Here are some tips in decorating with an area rug.

Place a runner and an accent rug in an area that follows the lines of the wall to create a balanced look. If you have two or more rugs, make sure that they are of the same tone to create a look of harmony in the room. Entering this living space will instantly give an impression of relaxation.

If you or your child prefers to have more than one rug in the playroom, go for similar colors or those belonging to the same shade. This will match better with the room and will create a clean line with the rest of the furnishings. Decide if you want pastel shades, earth colors, bright or dark tones.

Choosing the right size is just as important. You wouldn’t want a too large rug for a teeny-weeny room or a too small rug for a big room. Measure the allotted space before going to the store to buy the rug. Different areas may require different rug sizes too, so decide first in which part of the room the rug will be placed. Having measurements will make shopping for the rug easier and faster.

Simple changes in decorations like the area rugs will make changes in your child’s playroom a breeze.

Children’s Interior Design has never been this easy with these rugs. Be sure to take a look at this childrens rugs for the latest information.

Redecorating Your Children’s Bedroom

If you are considering redecorating your child’s room because they have outgrown the theme which the room has currently or if you just want a new look, it can be a lot of fun. If your child is old enough let them help you create their own space. This will give them more pride in their room after it is completed. You may already have a design picked out but if not look around in magazines and online or even in the stores to choose what you are looking to peruse in the rooms decor.

The first thing to do for your renovation to be effective is to remove all the rubbish or clutter from the room. Children tend to keep a lot of waste material may be from craft activities or unwanted books, pencils, torn clothes, broken toys, etc. and even food particles. For this reason the room has to be kept extremely clean. Such activity is better done alone to avoid further delays as involving the children would mean keeping many things that are close to their heart and unimportant.

Wall papering the room is necessary if it has been scribbled on or pictures are stuck or if paint has chipped off. Choosing a color would depend on whether you would want a pink shade for a girl and blue for a boy or may be just a plain one with cartoon characters in different places. Whatever the choice it should be cleanable at the end of the day.

If you are unable to carpet their room with newer, try a great area rug. You can choose one which goes with their design or even one that will just add a punch of color to the decor. Make sure the area rug which you choose is soft and comfortable for them if they sit on the floor to play.

Shelving units are a great idea to place upon the wall if you are unable to purchase a new toy box or book shelf. You’ll be able to use that useless space for something rather than just sitting there bare. Another great item to place into a child’s room would be a chalk board or dry eraser board depending on their age. They’ll get a kick out of this and they can put their minds to work drawling on them!

Don’t be ripped off by imitations. Be sure to buy authentic kids rugs directly.

Whether your child wants to be the latest rock star or they want to explore the jungle you can create a bedroom that your child will love. Their room should be a place that they can go and grow their imaginations. It builds self confidence and self esteem. You can create a great room with these simple tips.

To get started you need your child’s opinion and ideas. Sit down with them and plan what they want in their bedroom. This will make it easier on you.

Music may be the theme you choose. You can start by decorating the walls with musical colors. Then you can add instruments on the wall or make a border out of music notes. You can create sheet music as well. If you have an old guitar, hang it on the wall. Use it as a focal point and add a karaoke stage in the corner of the room for your child to perform.

If a princess lives in your home you want to have a room that is fit for her. A princess themed bedroom is very popular among girls. You can turn the walls into an enchanted forest and place little fairies behind the trees hiding. You can purchase the stencil to create the fairies if you cannot create them on your own. If you have a canopy bed you may want to consider draping a silky material over it in pink shades to give it a princess look. If you don’t have a canopy you can purchase one and add it to any bed.

No matter what theme you choose, every child’s room should have a few important elements. Make sure your child has plenty of room to play and provide adequate storage for toys. A small desk or a table and chairs are great additions to any child’s bedroom. This will give your child a designated place to study or do art work. You should also provide some small furniture for your child’s room. Specialty shops carry tiny chairs and sofas for children as young as two or three years old. Teenagers love inflatable furniture which is a great inexpensive way to add some color and style to a boring space.

Last, make sure you include an area rug in your child’s bedroom design. You can find rugs in every shape, size or color imaginable. You can often find rugs designed specifically for children that are made to match popular themes. Rugs offer a soft place to play or relax and they give a child’s room another element of style and color.

You can decorate a child’s room any way they want it. Your child will love the new look you have created.

Our best hint for Children’s Home Decorating, is to use area rugs – and the kids area rugs will suit any modern furnishings.

Bedroom Chair – Some Extra Comfort In The Bedroom

One of the most overlooked but most needed pieces of furniture in the bedroom is the bedroom chair. You likely do not automatically think of a bedroom chair when you are considering the de’cor of your bedroom.

Chairs for the bedroom are usually correlated with more extravagant homes and hotels – but you can add a chair to your bedroom even if you have simple de’cor and a meager budget – and it will provide a functional spot in the bedroom for various tasks – from applying makeup to providing a quiet and comfortable place to read. And since more and more folks are allowing the bedroom to double as a spot to watch television, you will find a chair in this room can come in handy for that, too.

Bedroom chair options run from the very stylish to the trendy and simple.

These types of chairs are extremely comfortable and allow for the ultimate lounging around experience. The bean bag chair is no longer popular just for kid’s rooms, although it certainly has an appeal to the younger sect. Bean bag chairs can be plush and full – and modern versions are bigger than those that were made in the past. You can also find bean bag chairs that are shaped like interesting objects; for example, a bean bag chair that is shaped like a shoe.

Many people purchase a stool to match their makeup table – and this stool typically allows for a functional piece in the bedroom that you can use for dressing. Stools are bedroom chair options that you can use for a makeup table, or other functional purpose.

For your child’s room, there are gaming chairs that sit directly on the floor. These chairs move back and forth and are perfect for playing video games. This kind of bedroom chair is very cheap, generally less than fifty dollars – and some of them have a hookup for the child’s MP3/MP4 player on board.

There are whole varieties of bedroom recliners that are perfect for lounging around in your room. Bedroom furniture is not limited to beds and dressers!

King Size Duvet Cover – European Style For Bedrooms Worldwide

May 31, 2010 by

Although usually made from linen or cotton, a king size duvet can come in quite a few other options; one of the more popular alternatives is a polyester blend.

A duvet cover looks just like a giant pillow case with three sides sewn shut and an opening at the top to slip the duvet itself into. The opening at the top can be sealed in a few different ways. Some covers have a button top and others have a zipper that you can simply zip the cover close. There are also some that that use Velcro straps across the top to seal the duvet in. It really is up to the user as to the preferred method of closure.

Known for having insulated feathers, the Eider duck was used in making the original duvets over in Europe. In Europe the beds were made of feather mattresses and the duvet was placed directly on the mattress so in essence the bed was like an envelope of feathers. It is very rare to find a duvet made of feathers inside of an American home, although some Northern Europeans still prefer the traditional style to the new. The most common materials that are used in duvets today are silk, wool, polyester, and cotton batting. They are no longer confined to Europe and are a worldwide phonemenon. Although commonly used as a substitute for a comforter in the United States of America, duvets are meant to be used on their own. Unlike comforters, you do not need to have sheets and other blankets on the bed to properly use a duvet.

Keeping a duvet clean, especially traditional ones, is important, as they are very difficult to clean. King size duvet covers are an easy way to keep your duvet clean as they can simply be cleaned by taking the cover off and placing the cover in the washing machine.

Not only does the cover serve the function of keeping the duvet clean, it also gives it some style. Typically traditional styles are white, so adding a stylized cover can add some color to the room. You will find that these covers are available in many color options with many different patterns. This is a great way to change the decor in the room without having to buy new bed covers.

Any owner of a king sized bed along with a duvet would do well to invest in a king size duvet cover. Leaving the duvet itself without any protection can be dire, especially considering how expensive one can be — even more so if it is filled with down.

Not many homes had used these types of covers before the past decade, and these days they are more popular than ever. The king size duvet cover is the perfect addition to any bedroom.

Interior Decorating in Small Bedrooms

A small bedroom can be a big problem, especially when considering how important this space is to your psychological and emotional well being. This is the space where you should feel most comfortable, a place where you should be able to stretch out and relax. If your bedroom is cramped however, it can leave you feeling claustrophobic, and can lead to problems with sleeping, living, and working. Luckily there are a variety of solutions that can help you to make even the tiniest bedroom feel bigger and more luxurious.

First of all, if you don’t have a lot of room, you shouldn’t have a lot of stuff. It is important to restrict your possessions to what you actually have the space for. The more clutter you accumulate in your tiny bedroom, the smaller it will look. To increase the feeling of space, try becoming a minimalist. The fewer items you have cluttering up the room, the more room you will appear to have.

Aside from being uncluttered, you should also try to keep the space tidy. Chaos in generals takes up more room than order. When things are neatly put away in their proper place, the room will feel more efficient, more perfect, and the space between your possessions will be more visible.

Color is another space tool you can use. In general dark colors collapse in on a room, making it feel smaller and cozier. In a small bedroom, you should try to use light colors so that the walls recede from one another, making the illusion of space. This is particularly true when it comes to wall color, although it can also be applied to decorative pieces.

Another trick is to use mirrors to create the illusion of space. When you look into a mirror, it’s like peering past a window into another entire world. That world has its own dimension, its own space, and its own layout, which can double visual appearance of the space in your bedroom.

Just because your bedroom is tiny doesn’t mean it has to be uncomfortable. There are a variety of methods that you can employ to create the illusion of space. The important thing is that you do whatever you can to make yourself feel at peace in this space.

Decorating Ideas For Little Girls Rooms

Little girls love beautiful colors, which makes it so easy to decorate a girl’s bedroom. Simply adding floral fabrics, cute butterflies and animals or trellises to a room will turn it into a haven that your daughter will cherish and be proud to call her own. Stencils of vines, flowers, and butterflies would be a beautiful accent to her walls, while painting with colors to match your wallpapers and fabrics would add a nice touch. For the windows, airy and soft curtains are a must.

If your house is located near the beach or you wish it was, use an ocean theme with sea blues for the walls, sandy colors for the floor, and cloudy skies for the ceiling. Get ideas from beach border art prints and wallpapers, as well.

Another theme for a little girl is called the Starlight theme. This is becoming more popular with every little girl. To help you decorate right, you will find wallpaper, bedding, rugs of different sizes and more with this pattern already on it. Boys can also use these themes as well but for girls you can add bright pastels colors to make it more feminine. Using star pieces is a must; use rubber sponges and stamps dipped in paint to add different designs to the room. Make a star border as well to help decorate the room or as a decoration on furniture. You may want to add a star shaped rug to her floor to complete the look.

The moon can also create a soft and beautiful look. Ceilings of midnight blue filled with painted stars and the moon, or even glow-in-the-dark star stickers can embellish the room beautifully, as can a star-studded bookshelf or chest. A star or moon quilt or fabric is perfect for window treatments, while a cut-out of the moon can be added onto the headboard.

Flowers are another great feminine style. Sunny yellows, watermelon pinks, lime greens, and bright oranges are great colors to establish this retro look of the 60s. Colorful fabrics and borders are essential, ideally featuring basic shapes of flowers in bright colors that can be matched with basic fabrics for valances, ruffles, and pillows for a window seat. Shapes of flowers can also be blown up with a Xerox machine, in order to be randomly traced onto the walls and wild colors should be used as paint to coordinate it with the available fabrics.

Girls also tend to love the sun, so why not paint a picture of the hills with a peeking sunrise at the top? Bright colors for quilts and beddings are preferred, while green rugs can look like grass and the ceiling can be painted in a soft sky blue. Waking up to this beautiful theme is sure to please any young girl, as it gives off a cozy look of summer.

Another great theme for your daughter would be a cottage style theme, especially if most of her furniture is second-hand. A lot of white colors will be needed for this theme, as well as light colors like sky blue, pink, and pale green.

Whatever you choose your little girl will be so happy with her new look. If she gets tired of one look it’s easy to change the look again by simply painting over it. All costs are minimal but the joy is endless.

If you found this information about Interior Design beneficial, then you are bound to adore these girls area rugs.

An Angel Themed Room For Your New Angel

April 9, 2010 by

You are expecting your new baby to be nothing short of an angel. Therefore, you should prepare for the new arrival by decorating their room in a way that they are not too far away from the heaven they came from. The advantage of having an angel themed room is that it can last from infancy to the pre-school age of your child, passing the toddler years and on up to 6 years.

First, determine how far you intend to go with the whole angel theme. You may want to go the whole nine yards by having the theme expressed in the entire room, or you may only wish to accent the room with angel motifs and designs. You will also need to establish how permanent your angel theme will be. Do you only want it only for the period of infancy, or up to pre-school? This will help you select the right furniture and furnishings as you do not want to splurge on expensive items you will not need in two years.

An initial step for transforming the nursery into an angel’s room is painting the walls. White is the bet as the symbol for heaven, the angels’ residence. You can then adorn the walls with angel decors. A mural will also look amazing. Paint in some fluffy clouds and accent a streak of blue to symbolize the sky.

Accessorize the windows with white curtain in lace, silk or satin. No need for thick curtains. In fact, lightweight fabric is preferred. It gives the room an airy look.

For your furnishings, go for accent fabrics that will complement your angel themed room. If your fabrics will have angel motifs, try not to overdo it as these may overpower the entire room. Have only a few scattered angel motifs in place. Have the fabrics in mixes of solid colors so as to break up printed patterns. Accent area rugs with angel motifs or cloud patterns are easily found at online stores. Such rugs will accent the room and complete the entire angel theme look you are going for.

For the lighting, there are lamps with a customized design. Look for an angel-inspired design.

Angel figurines and stuffed toys will also make the nursery cuter! Without a doubt, this is an angel’s room inspired by your very own angel.

Puppy Love, Kitty Kisses

April 7, 2010 by

Looking for a different theme for your child’s room? Well there is a great way to change a room, change it to a puppy theme or how about those cute little kitten themes? Both of these animals are loved by kids of all ages, and most of them will want to have a pet while they are growing up. Sometimes due to circumstances you are not able to have a pet, so why not decorate their room up instead!

For this project I suggest choosing a wall paper with an animal theme. Puppies, kittens, bunnies, and many other lovable pets are offered in various patterns and colors. If wall paper is out of your price range create you may be able to create your own. To do this, choose a solid color for your wall. I prefer white, but any will work. Next find some stickers that have the pet you desire. Buy several hundred of these and place in a pattern on at least one wall. If you have used white paint the border of the sticker will not be noticeable, however if you did not use white you may want to edge the stickers in your background color so that it all appears to be one piece. The cost of this project will depend on the size of your room. My daughter’s room is 6′ X9′ and I was able to do her walls for only about $30.00.

Look for bedding that has the pet on it too. This is a great way to get the whole room looking like a great room, and to make your child happy. Plus the addition of some nice stuffed animals will even add more to the decor. Make sure that you don’t get too many different color schemes going though. The room can look great but get overwhelming if you have too much color in it.

Don’t forget the addition of an area rug, which you can get in so many different shapes, sizes and colors. A great thing about an area rug is it will help with the wear and tear on the floor, it’s easy to clean, and very inexpensive too. The area rug will be a great way to make sure the full room is tied together as far as decor too.

With a great theme of a puppy or a kitten you will have a lovely looking room for your child. And if you have had them help with the decorating it will also help out their self esteem. So have a project that both you and your child can do and redecorate their room.

If you found this information about Home Design useful, then you are going to love these kids area rugs.
