Redecorating Your Children’s Bedroom

If you are considering redecorating your child’s room because they have outgrown the theme which the room has currently or if you just want a new look, it can be a lot of fun. If your child is old enough let them help you create their own space. This will give them more pride in their room after it is completed. You may already have a design picked out but if not look around in magazines and online or even in the stores to choose what you are looking to peruse in the rooms decor.

The first thing to do for your renovation to be effective is to remove all the rubbish or clutter from the room. Children tend to keep a lot of waste material may be from craft activities or unwanted books, pencils, torn clothes, broken toys, etc. and even food particles. For this reason the room has to be kept extremely clean. Such activity is better done alone to avoid further delays as involving the children would mean keeping many things that are close to their heart and unimportant.

Wall papering the room is necessary if it has been scribbled on or pictures are stuck or if paint has chipped off. Choosing a color would depend on whether you would want a pink shade for a girl and blue for a boy or may be just a plain one with cartoon characters in different places. Whatever the choice it should be cleanable at the end of the day.

If you are unable to carpet their room with newer, try a great area rug. You can choose one which goes with their design or even one that will just add a punch of color to the decor. Make sure the area rug which you choose is soft and comfortable for them if they sit on the floor to play.

Shelving units are a great idea to place upon the wall if you are unable to purchase a new toy box or book shelf. You’ll be able to use that useless space for something rather than just sitting there bare. Another great item to place into a child’s room would be a chalk board or dry eraser board depending on their age. They’ll get a kick out of this and they can put their minds to work drawling on them!

Don’t be ripped off by imitations. Be sure to buy authentic kids rugs directly.

Nevertheless, using materials and accents that will look great with the rest of the furnishings in the room is the priority.

Decorating your bed is nothing different from decorating your home. Your choices should be attuned to things that you like. It can be a reflection of yourself or the things dear to you.

The following are some ideas you can apply in upgrading your bed sweet bed:

Carefully select the mattress if you’re planning to buy a new one. Some are too soft or too high while others are the opposite. Make sure that the mattress fits your bed frame and that it has a protective cover for longevity. Cover with a soft bedsheet. The thicker the fabric, the plusher it will feel. Ensure that the sheets are tight around the mattress for a finer look. Cotton is a consistent favorite because of its soft texture.

To make a crisp bed, pull duvets and sheets tight around the mattress and turn in covers since loose sheets look ‘too lived in’ and while you’re out buying mattress covers, pick up one for your costly duvets too – it increases the duvet’s durability and makes the bed more comfy too. The best fabric blends for bed linen that is cool, stylish and classic is Egyptian cotton, which is breathable being a natural fiber and also does not attract lint. For a romantic, fresh and stylish bedroom, pick light, neutral colours in cotton blends, which will also make the bedroom look bigger.

Placing an area rug at the foot of the bed or beside the bed will make it more attractive. Waking up to the feel of lush fabric on your feet is heavenly. Even sitting down on the floor is not at all bad. Choose an area rug that just like the beddings, go well with the color of the room. Your bed will be the most beautiful throne there is.

Paint Your Bedroom a Beautiful New Shade- This is probably one of the fastest ways to create a new look. Consider a color that may seem a little out of the ordinary for you. The new darker shades work very well in a bedroom, as long as it is not too small. You can purchase a can of good quality paint that doesn’t require a primer at your local hardware store for about $20. If you are painting over a darker color, you may have to put up two coats.

Add an Area Rug- An area rug can quickly change the feel of any room. You can find some fantastic area rugs for much less than you might think. Check around at your local consignment or thrift shop, as well. A new area rug may run you about fifty bucks if you watch the sales ads. Accent the bed some more by placing an area rug on its side or at its foot. Waking up to the feel of lush texture is an energizer. Sitting on the bedroom floor too will count as life’s simple pleasure, plus a space-saver with the possibility of doing without a chair or couch, especially if there’s limited space. You don’t really need a Persian or Oriental rug. Save those supreme quality rugs for the living room. For now, you’ll be able to get nice area rugs just the same with a limited budget.

Look for New Window Treatments -If you sew, you can create a beautiful set of curtains for just a few dollars. If you don’t sew, then you can find some very nice curtains at your local discount store. You also may want to check some of the online auction sites to see if you can find exactly what you are looking for.

Window treatments – don’t neglect the windows! A pretty curtain, window blinds, valance or drapes can make a difference. Use a color or design that goes with the rest of the room. Creating that dim, intimate look is not difficult with a window treatment to block off the sunlight.

Add a Couple of Plants- For those are good keeping plants alive indoors (and this is not everyone!) a couple of plants will make your bedroom feel warm and inviting. Choose those that don’t require much watering, such as pretty flowering cacti. Make sure you protect your furniture from any possible water leaks.

The Bedroom A Forgotten Room

It appears that the bedroom is the most neglected room in the house when it comes to redecorating and this could be because all of the decorating emphasis is usually spent on those areas that are seen by other people like visitors and guests. The decorating budget goes to areas with more visibility and the bedroom isn’t usually open to the public. So bedroom updates are few and far between.

But when you look at how much time you spend in a bedroom, well it’s a lot of time. Even if you are sleeping there are times when you’re awake and just go to the room to relax. This can be your sanctuary to get away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Most people will have an outdated look in their bedroom, and absolutely no focal point. But you can change this around.

So changing the bedroom is not that hard of a task all you need to do is to take the time. Of course you will need to figure out just how much you can spend on the project before you go about starting it. See how much you can spend and than get started.

You don’t need a lot of money when redoing your bedroom so don’t feel like you may not have enough to redo that forgotten room. After figuring out the budget think of what kind of style you want for your new room. Of course most likely you will be changing the colors in the room. Remember that a great way to save some money is to only paint one wall in the room. This will mean less paint that you will need to buy and by all means make sure you paint it yourself.

So you don’t have money to buy an extra bed, that’s ok, because all you need to do is change the headboard. You can do so by buying some fabric and recovering the headboard. It won’t take you long and you will change the look of the bed creating what will look like a brand new bed.

Adding in some real flowers to the bedroom will not only make it look brighter but will have a nice aroma in the room.

Another relatively inexpensive “fix” is to purchase new area rugs in colors and patterns different from the current combinations. You might replace one large area rug with two smaller ones of different patterns and colors. Not only does this add color to the room, it also gives you a warm place to lay your feet on when you get out of bed.

Changing the furniture around to a new way is a great idea and may actually add more space to your room. Try it a new way and see how much different the room looks than.

By simply changing the bed sheets you can change the look of the room. Or add some throw pillows onto the old sheets and see how they look it will cost you a lot less money.

If space is an issue and clutter is a continuing problem, consider investing in an under-the-bed storage unit. Some of these utilize casters to make the units easy to use. The units can be used to store off-season clothing or extra linens and bed coverings.

If you have one wall that stands out because you have nothing on it just add a nice drape on the wall. It will living up the wall and the whole room.

Though the bedroom is usually ignored when it comes to redecorating you should really try and change it around. Yes it won’t be seen by others but to make a nice sanctuary for yourself you can spend a little money.

For most people the bedroom is a haven of rest. It is the place you go at the end of a long, hard day to relax and forget about the everyday struggles of life. It is important that your bedroom be as conducive to rest as possible. Colors, furnishings, and bedding all contribute to the ambiance of your bedroom, so let us look at furnishings to make the bedroom as organized as possible, which will in turn make it make it an inviting room of relaxation.

Beds are the most important thing when it comes to the bedroom. This is where you will rest and hopefully wake up feeling refreshed every day. You need to make sure that you get the right size of bed, and the right comfort level too. You should not get a bed that is too big for the room you are putting it in. A crowded feeling will not help you to relax but can in fact make you feel even more distressed. Also make sure that you don’t get a bed that is too small. It will not look right in the room, and may also not allow you to get the right amount of sleep in a night either. The bed also needs to allow you and anyone else who may sleep in it to have a nice night sleep, so make sure you consider what type of firmness you need the mattress to be. Beds are a very expensive purchase so you should really make sure that you have the right one the first time around.

Adding in some shelves to a bedroom is a nice way that you can clean up some clutter. You can put up shelves that are white, or add some color to them to go with other colors in the room. This will be a perfect way to add some warmth and comfort into the room. Don’t place a shelve that isn’t right for your room this can have the same affect as the wrong size bed. Make sure that they look right in the room, and add some nice statues or pictures on them.

Floors are one thing that many people don’t think about when it comes to the bedroom. Adding in a nice area rug over either a hardwood floor or some neutral colored carpet will living up the room. If the floor is hardwood it will be a nice place for you to step on those cold mornings. With area rugs you have so many choices of colors, sizes, and designs that you shouldn’t have a hard time finding the proper choice to go in the room and add to the decor nicely. Remember that you shouldn’t mix up styles so if you have a country look going in your bedroom don’t add in a modern looking area rug. This is a distraction and one that you will notice when you are trying to get that much needed relaxation after a long hard day.

Another great piece to consider for your bedroom is an armoire, or a wardrobe. These are great if you lack space for hanging clothes or if you are looking for a hiding place for your TV and c.d. player. An armoire offers both room for hanging clothes and drawer space as well. If you have a need for both and have limited space in your bedroom, you may wish to give serious consideration to one of these versatile pieces.

Our best hint for Bedroom Decorating, is to use area rugs – and the transitional rugs will suit any modern furnishings.

Bedding Decor

Bedding is not something you buy with every trip to the store. In fact on average people buy bedding maybe 2-4 times per year. With the changing of the seasons is one of the main times to purchase new bedding. To understand which bedding is right for you here are some pointers to help.

When you break down your bed you have a bed frame which works to keep the headboard and footboard together. Then you have the box spring which sits on the bed frame. Then you have the mattress that you sleep on. Inside most mattresses are springs that hold you up while you sleep. The filling that surrounds the springs make up most of the mattress. This filling will determine the amount of comfort you experience with your mattress. The ticking is the thick piece of the mattress that is stretched around the entire frame of the mattress. You may or may not have a feather bed on the top of your mattress. If you do, this will give you an added layer of comfort to your mattress because the cushiony feeling of feathers can make a comfortable bed.

Well now what goes on top of the mattress? A sheet set’s quality is determined by the thread count. The thread count is the number of vertical and horizontal threads per square inch. The higher the thread count the softer and more durable the sheets are. Sheets are made from several different materials but they all either fall under the category of being natural or synthetic. Synthetic material is man-made and artificially created. Most sheets are then covered by a coverlet, a term used to describe any duvet, bedspread, comforter, blanket, or quilt. Duvets are thick and usually filled with down feathers and are ideal for winter weather. Quilts tend to be thinner and are made of hand-stitched pieces sewn together with decorative cross-stitching. You will no doubt find some form of coverlet comes in handy and even if it’s always warm coverlets can add a touch of style to your bed.

A canopy may be used on some beds. A poster bed holds poles that run around the top in a square. Material can be stretched from pole to pole to create a romantic feel to your room.

Knowing the facts about beds can help you pick the right bedding for your bed. When adding new bedding to your room you want to pick out a couple of accessories that will blend well with your new look. Add picture frames, lamps, candles and soft lighting to create a new and relaxing atmosphere. An area rug is also important to include in your new look. Purchase a color that stands out to you and is welcoming.
