The bedroom is your child’s first stage, where he or she gets to try new things, imagine new worlds and discover new interests. It’s that little haven where your tot should be able to explore and grow. Always remember to consider the interests of your child when designing his or her room, no matter how new those pursuits might be. It helps your child enjoy his or her private space, while at the same time nurturing that new interest.

Choosing a theme is best done with your child. Get your son or daughter involved in the decision-making and designing process so that he or she will feel more responsible about the room. Start by finding out what his or her likes, dislikes, favorite colors and least appealing items. Let your child know that his or her input was an important factor in the design process.

Themes can vary from fairy tales, Barbie dolls and fairies for girls; and sports, outdoors and cars for boys. Neutral themes include animals, alphabets, ocean, outer space/stars and music.

Girls, meanwhile, are a little more generic, especially with the typical princess and fairy land theme. Here’s where you can really let your creativity loose. You could try grandiose designs that involve painting all the walls as a forest, complete with pixies and fairies just hiding around the corner. You could also go the simpler route by giving your little girl a stone pattern paint job to simulate a princess’ castle bedroom. Add a canopy bed and lots of silk, tulle or organza, and you should have a room that your little girl will truly enjoy.

Whatever theme you and your child chooses, remember to allot adequate space for him/her to play in. There should also be enough storage for keeping the toys and clothes. Make your child’s bedroom not only fun and attractive, but more importantly, safe and comfortable.

Area rugs are an especially good idea for a child’s room because it adds a soft, plush bit of texture to the room. Your child will thus have a small place where he or she can play safely, without your having to worry about bumps and bruises. And now that rugs are available in virtually every design and theme, there’s no reason for you not to get one.

Adding an area rug in the play area will help for a more comfortable fun time. With a plush material to sit on or lounge around, who wouldn’t feel relaxed? Choose an area rug that complements the theme and color of the room, and rest assured that it will be the perfect bedroom your child can ever have.

Children’s Home Decorating has never been so easy with these kids area rugs.
