Do you look at your bedroom as a special place just for you that expresses your own personality? Or do you see your bedroom just as simply a place to put your bed and to sleep? For many a bedroom is more than just a place to sleep, it’s a place where they can express their own personality through their own sense of style and bedroom decoration.

If you just see a bedroom as somewhere that you sleep and not much more then this article isn’t for you. If you really just view your bedroom as somewhere where you get undressed to go to bed, spend the night then get dressed again then you’ll be a little bored by bedroom decoration.

But if you love being in your bedroom you’ll probably love decorating it, taking your time choosing your bed and your bedding, lying in in the mornings to take delight in your surroundings and generally feeling good in your own special room. This article is written for you.

Redecorating is so popular now. And for many people who start decorating the bedroom is the right place to start first. So for anyone thinking of redesigning or redecorating their bedroom here’s a few things you might want to think about before you start.

1. Have a plan. It’s easy to see a great bed, love it, buy it and then wonder what else you’ll put with it to make it fit in with the room. Before you buy anything for your bedroom you need to decide on a few basic things and preferably write down a decoration plan.

First is to decide on your bedroom theme. Without a theme you’re floundering. For example a theme for a childs bedroom may be Winnie the Pooh. For an adult it might be a particular flower, or color, or period theme. Once you’ve decided on your theme you can decide on other individual things that go with your theme like bed, carpet or floor coverings and so on. Write it all down on your plan before you start.

2. Budget. You have to remember that a bedroom decoration isn’t cheap, and you need to know how much you can afford and how much it all will cost before you get started. No point in buying that hot four poster bed you’ve always wanted and being unable to afford anything to go with it. On top of the bed, for example, you need sheets or a duvet, pillows and covers and so on, all in keeping with your theme. You have to be able to afford all of it. Price everything first and write it on your plan.

3. You need to know what size your bedroom is, and put it on your plan. You might have bought that four poster bed you love and when it goes in the bedroom there’s no room left for anything else, like that dressing table you have to have. Measure your bedroom and draw a floor plan with everything on it to make sure that you have space for everything, including you.

4. Getting it all into the room is important. It might not be an issue, but for some it is. If you have to carry that four poster up the stairs, around the corner and so on it might not be so easy. You have to know that it will all get into the room, including through the door. Measure everything and know the answer before you buy.

Find out how it breaks down for example, or if it even does, and make sure you know exactly how it will go in before you buy that wonderful four poster.

That’s how it’s done. Do your plan and your budget and get it right first time off, and you’ll love your new bedroom, just for you. You’ve earned that special bedroom.
