Of course you want your child’s room to look special when you re-decorate it. If you have a young fisherman in your family, he couldn’t fail to love a room that’s decorated so it’s just like being on a boat out on the ocean. So how do you create that feeling for your young fisherman?
To make his bedroom a fisherman’s home as realistic as possible, use the right colors. Prepare to repaint with some artworks as accents. The walls can be painted a dark blue or a light green, or a combination of both. Add some specks of white to signify the waves. At the bottom of the wall, paint a tan or cream color to make it look like there’s sand and add specks of brown using the tips of the bristles (just a gentle stroke) for a grainy effect. Beach scenes will also make the walls more animated. You can paint beach balls, beach umbrellas, white fluffy clouds and the bright sun, sand castles and sailboats. Be inspired by your trips to the beach. I’m sure your little boy would love to pitch in his ideas too.
Decorate with fish toys or fish cutouts as wall hangings. These toys can be mounted using hooks. For a complete look, include other sea creatures to the picture like crabs, sea urchins, corals, etc. See how the bedroom transforms in an instant.
See if you can get hold of an old wooden boat from a junk yard or yard sale, preferably one with a flat bottom. This makes less work for you, since you won’t have to make a frame to keep it upright. If you can’t get a boat with a flat bottom, make a frame to help the boat to sit upright against a wall, so that it doesn’t tip. Keep it extra stable by anchoring it to the wall. Ask around at the junk yard if you can’t find a boat there, because they may well know where you can get one cheaply. You need on about six feet long, so that you can fit a twin bed in it and still have storage space. Be careful to measure the boat before you buy. Take the seats out of the boat and put a sheet of plywood in the bottom. Put in the mattress and some suitably colored and patterned bedding. Now your young fisherman can imagine the rocking waves under his boat as he goes to sleep!
Finally, an area rug to cap off the decorating project is a must. It should of course, go well with the rest of the room in color or design. A large area rug is better to cushion as much space as possible. Even if you already have carpeting, an area rug will still be an essential addition for a put-together design.
